Chasing Approval is Expensive
Chasing approval isn’t just emotionally draining—it’s costly on multiple levels.
The obvious: we spend money trying to impress people who may not even notice, let alone care. From buying things to fit a certain image, to attending events we don’t enjoy, to upgrading things that don’t need upgrading, the financial toll adds up.
The not so obvious: the real cost lies in the opportunities we forfeit.
When we’re chasing approval, we often abandon what we really want. We spend time, energy, and resources pursuing validation instead of investing in ourselves. This distraction pulls us further from our goals, leaving us unfulfilled and wondering why happiness always feels just out of reach.
The moment we stop chasing approval, everything changes. By shifting our focus inward, we begin to identify what truly matters to us. This alignment allows us to act in ways that reflect our authentic values. Over time, this isn’t just a quick fix—it’s a transformational path toward self-actualization - what we really want.
Our choices become intentional. We start creating a life that feels fulfilling and sustainable. This positive reinforcement keeps us moving forward, not for others’ approval but for our own satisfaction.
This process can seem daunting, but it is worth it. Take it step by step with room for error. You may subconsciously go back to acting in ways that are to get others’ approval. Acknowledge that and move forward. It is a practice, not perfection. You’ll get there.
