I need you to hear this: You make a difference.
Every time I do a reading with a nurse, EMT, or an end-of-life caregiver of any kind, I see them surrounded by something that looks like the northern lights. It’s all the people around them that they helped saying hello.
So, this piece is for all the people with them at the end who wonder if what they did was enough.
It was. It was 110% percent more than enough.
You were there in their hardest moments. You helped them through the worst of the worst. And they love you for it.
Here’s something you may not always get to hear, though: When people are well cared for at the end of their lives, it helps their families, too.
You don’t just ease the transition for the dying—you give the living something invaluable: peace.
I talk to so many people who are at peace with how their loved one passed. And you know what they tell me?
They are at peace because they know someone took care of them. They know their person wasn’t alone. They know there was kindness in those final moments.
So, if you’ve ever wondered whether what you do matters, if you’ve ever questioned whether you did enough - please, hear me when I say this:
They saw you. They felt you. And they love you.
